British Airways

British Airways

British Airways is one of the world's leading airlines, which has made a commitment to cut its net CO2 emissions by 50% by 2050. The Reassurance Network provided formal assurance of British Airways' corporate responsibility report and management approach over a three year period, to reassure stakeholders and to provide management with an independent review of performance.

The leading British airline commissioned us to complete assurance assignments over a three year period, focussing on their management of the environment, supply chain, communities, ethics and employment practices. These projects required us to review their operations in the UK and US. The assessments were conducted according to the AA1000A and ISEA3000 standards. We presented our independent thoughts on the accuracy, materiality, balance and completeness of the content of their reports and also considered BA's responsiveness to their stakeholders, their own commitments and our previous recommendations.

We have always tried to take assurance beyond a simple seal of approval- ensuring that clients gain as much as possible from our input. Building on our report assurance, BA asked The Reassurance Network to include an internal review of their CR management. The review involved a deep evaluation of their management and governance systems and a formal assessment against the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. We used the knowledge we had gained from our report verification work as well as further research, to form opinions and recommendations on key material issues. The project offered strategic review and direction as well as assurance of the efficiency and effectiveness of the current management of CR within the business. Our recommendations for future focus and improvement were presented each year to the BA Corporate Responsibility Board.
