Next is one of the UK's most successful fashion retailers with more than 500 stores in the UK and a further 170 overseas. Next Directory, a direct mail order catalogue has more than 2 million active customers.
We assured Next's corporate responsibility programme and its CR report for four years, contributing to the development of its strategy during this time. These projects covered many aspects of CR, including Environmental Impact, Human Rights and Health & Safety.
Our CR report assurance was carried out to AA1000 and ISAE3000 standards. The statements focused on the completeness, balance, accuracy and materiality of the report content, as well as Next's responsiveness each year to its stakeholders. As part of our assurance work, we were also invited to undertake more in-depth reviews relating to certain aspects of Next's CR strategy. These included its franchise operations, environmental strategy, its wholly owned factory in Sri Lanka and its call centre operation in India.
Our findings were presented to senior management each year, alongside our broader recommendations for CR management and operational improvement. A summary of these recommendations was included in the public assurance statement within the published report.
