Santos
Santos is a top 30 Australian company specialising in oil and gas exploration and production. It supplies over 20% of Eastern Australia's gas and has Australia's largest exploration portfolio. Santos approached The Reassurance Network to develop its business ethics strategy, with a particular focus on its Code of Conduct and Business Principles.
The project was multi-staged and comprehensive. We started by undertaking a benchmarking exercise, positioning Santos' current Codes against those of other businesses in the sector, best practice companies and also with Australian sustainability leaders. We compared the codes' style, structure, language and content, as well as the management systems to support them and the level of business integration as a result.
On top of the benchmarking, we engaged with comparable businesses, considered relevant international standards and guidelines and consulted ethical investment specialists to get a full picture of what we believed was crucial in the development and implementation of Santos' Codes.
The final product of our work was a fully drafted Code of Conduct and business practice, as well as recommendations for the implementation, communication and monitoring of the code.
