In the field of CR there are a number of initiatives that have been created to further integrate responsible practice into business. These range from voluntary movements to certifiable standards.
Some of these initiatives are developed by industry bodies, some by international organisations, and others by NGOs or interest groups.
These are a few that are most relevant to our work:
The AA1000 Accountability Principles Standards were developed in 2008 and act as the core principles of the AA100 framework.
BSCI is an initiative focused on improving social compliance throughout business supply chains. It is framed around a monitoring and certification scheme that is based on ILO, UN and OECD conventions and standards.
The Ethical Trading Initiative is an alliance of companies, NGOs and Trade Unions, working to improve ethics in trade.
SMETA is an international guideline for ethical auditing and the preferred standard for SEDEX audits, derived from a compilation of best auditing practice.
GRI is an initiative to improve Corporate Responsibility reporting around the world. At its core are the GRI G3 Guidelines.
SEDEX is a membership organisation that provides organisations and their suppliers the opportunity to share the results of ethical audits, therefore reducing the need for multiple auditing.
