Social Accountability International: SA8000

Social Accountability International: SA8000

SA8000 is a voluntary, auditable standard created by Social Accountability International that certifies good employer practices.

The 9 SA8000 principles cover:

1. Child labour;

2. Forced and compulsory labour;

3. Health and safety;

4. Freedom of association and right to collective bargaining;

5. Discrimination;

6. Disciplinary practices;

7. Working hours;

8. Remuneration;

9. Management systems.

The framework is based around UN and ILO conventions, as well as national and international law, formalising them into a framework that can be measured and certified. Adhering to the standard and being certified to do so by an approved third party Social Accountability Accreditation Service (SAAS) auditor proves an employer to be socially responsible in its employment practices.
