Carbon Offsetting

Carbon Offsetting

Carbon offsetting is a process where Carbon emissions being emitted in one place are, in some respects, cancelled out by a carbon-reducing project elsewhere. For instance, if a business buys into a planting project abroad, which is said to reduce carbon in the atmosphere by 1 tonne a year, then they are balancing out 1 tonne a year of emissions that they are emitting elsewhere. Although heavily criticised by some parties, many business do this in order to establish themselves as 'Carbon Neutral'.
