The CRC is the UK's mandatory Climate Change and energy saving scheme that started in April 2010. The scheme is one of the central means for the UK to combat climate change, reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency. The focus in particular is the reduction of Green House Gas Emissions in larger organisations.
The scheme is legally enforceable, and anyone who does not meet their requirements will face penalties. It is estimated that it will effect around 20,000 organisations. In simplest terms, organisations that are affected by the scheme are those that had electricity consumption in excess of 6000 MWh in 2008 (this equates to an electricity bill of around £500,000). This does not include transport fuels.
