UNEPFI is a partnership between the UNEP and the financial sector in general (including banks, insurers and fund managers). The partnership works in a number of capacities, all involved in the relationship between environmental and social impacts and financial performance.
With over 180 member organisations, the partnership promotes and delivers research, training and communication in peer-to-peer networks in order to drive at its given aim: "to identify, promote, and realise the adoption of best environmental and sustainability practice at all levels of financial institution operations".
Signatories of the initiative are committed to various principles, outlined in the UNEPI Statements, that include a commitment to sustainable development and environmental management and to increase public awareness through communication.
