Player Protection & Responsible Gaming

Player Protection & Responsible Gaming

Player protection is at the forefront of any lottery or gambling operator's responsibilities. Many aspects of responsible gaming and player protection are now highly regulated in certain countries, whereas in others there is continued pressure from governments, peers and specialist groups for self-regulation. For many operators, achieving best practice in this area is no longer a choice, but a necessity.

Best practice is defined by a number of voluntary standards, as well as regulation. The lottery and gambling sectors are rapidly moving towards alignment with these voluntary standards; implementing risk assessments into their game design, educating players, engaging with gambling and gaming research establishments, training employees and operators, and publishing their policies and practices.

Many organisations are going beyond minimum compliance to produce broader and more comprehensive corporate responsibility reports, covering areas such as environmental impact, employment practices and stakeholder dialogue.

We can assist lotteries and gambling operators to "future-proof" themselves by developing and implementing effective player protection and corporate responsibility programmes, regardless of their current level of evolution.

For organisations that are setting out on this path, we can offer strategic advice and planning support; helping them to develop the vision, programmes and necessary skills to attain their desired level of certification.

For those organisations that have already gained best practice certification, we can offer a number of very efficient tools to help them improve. These include the latest stakeholder engagement tools, capable of researching the opinions of large and diverse populations. We have also developed highly innovative e-learning modules that can be adapted to reach employees, operators, retailers and players. These use interactive, 3-dimensional gambling and gaming environments to convey key messages.

For organisations wanting to move beyond player protection, we offer a wealth of experience in developing, managing and reporting on their broader corporate responsibilities, including employment practices, supply chain management, environmental protection and stakeholder engagement.

European Responsible Gaming Standards

These were a set of Standards released by the European Lotteries (EL) in 2007. The standards had a number of objectives, but broadly it was to ensure integrity in the industry, stipulate clear rules for EL membership, identify and promote RG best practice and to protect the interest of players.
